It's hard to express how good of a job we think Mike did
We bought a house built in the 1890s that had fallen into a state of disarray by the previous owner. Mike Ambrose accompanied us on our inspection to not only plan future work, but provide insight into various repairs that might need to be done as well as whether we should even buy the house. We had plans set to redo the electricity, paint the interior, refurbish the floors, install air conditioning (SpacePak), and - most importantly - convert the unfinished and largely unusable attic into a child's playroom. Even before closing on the house, Mike's company began drawing up architectural plans and getting the necessary permits so that they could hit the ground running (which was especially important to us as we were 6 months pregnant and therefore on a very definite timeline to move in). After the closing, Mike went to work right away, providing us with an estimate and timeline that ended up being nearly spot-on. In addition to the above listed work, Mike's company also rebuilt our back outdoor stairs, installed a garage door, installed tiles and a sump pump in the basement (and removed the mold in the basement, putting on anti-mold paint as well), built an outdoor fence, installed ceiling fans and lights in each room, as well as other various tasks.
It's hard to express how good of a job we think Mike did. Starting with the attic, it went from a horror show to a beautiful playroom that gets compliments from every person who visits it. Our two-year-old son spent the first 15 minutes up there running around in circles, collapsing on the floor and giggling uncontrollably with joy. It was a smashing hit.
The other work was all equally impressive and continues to get rave reviews from those who see it for the first time.
Despite the fact that we added many projects along the way, Mike handled all of them in a timely and efficient manner.
Perhaps most importantly for us, Mike kept us apprised on a regular basis about what was going on, how much it was going to cost and when it would be done. He did this by creating a project management webpage on which he would send us pictures, post updates and ask questions. This proved to be a very effective tool and allowed us to follow along without actually having to drive out to the new house.
When it was said and done, it went from a house that had good potential that needed a lot of work to a place that we are happy to call home and can see ourselves living in for decades to come.

Laid back, responsive, flexible, easy to do business with...
Really blown away by the amazing first floor remodel that Mike's crew completed - feels like something right out of a magazine. We had several companies quote on the work and Mike was the only one who fully captured our vision - new and modern while maintaining the character of our older home. I was totally blown away by the custom mudroom his carpenter built for us - even better than any of the pictures I had shared as ideas. Laid back, responsive, flexible, easy to do business with and very quality work product.

Cant say enough about the craftsmanship, integrity and friendliness
Mike and his crew took our vision and created a masterpiece! We recently completed a remodel of our entire main level and master bath, and I can't say enough about the craftsmanship, integrity and friendliness of everyone we dealt with from Ambrose Builders. Not only did Mike and company deliver a custom kitchen, dining area and bath that looks like it belongs in the pages of Architectural Digest, he patiently worked through design ideas, changes, and more changes with us, all the while helping us maintain our budget. He was always honest about cost and the realities of construction so that we never felt blindsided or out of control. Also loved using the online Basecamp program, as it provided an accurate means and record of our communication back and forth! No miscommunication!!!! When something was on our minds, he was quick to respond to our concerns, and always came up with a quality solution. Mike's attention to detail is meticulous, as is everyone's on his team. One of the best things about working with Mike, as well as his carpenter Mike (we have decided in the future to only let people named Mike work on or home!), and everyone else he had work in our home, was that they genuinely seemed as excited as we were to bring the vision to fruition, and worked hard to create not exactly what we hoped for, but SO much more! From our first meeting with Mike to our final glass of wine together in our beautiful new kitchen, Mike was an absolute pleasure to work with.

Research led me to Ambrose and I'm glad it did...Couldn't have gone smoother
Ambrose Builders, where to begin?! Absolutely every part of our renovation was beautiful, on time, and on budget. Mike's crew is the best in the business: friendly, hard-working, trustworthy, and true craftsmen. As for Mike himself, he's detail-oriented and hungry to grow his business based on actually being good and delivering a good product. A great bonus for me was Mike's usage of modern web-based project tracking and collaboration tools; he always had all the answers and there was never a miscommunication.
My wife and I had a non-trivial renovation planned: removing a wall, relocating the entire kitchen, staircase carpentry replacement, hardwood floor refinish on the first floor, and replacing carpet with hardwood on the second floor. Almost everybody you talk to has some kind of contractor horror story that ends in a protracted lawsuit or the contractor skipping town with the down payment, or worse! My research led me to Ambrose Builders, and I'm glad it did; the process couldn't have gone smoother for such a large and varied project.
Special shout-outs to the general carpenter (also named Mike) for doing tons of big projects plus all the little finishes that really tie everything together, and to the flooring guys, they went ham and finished their part in less than 2 weeks. Electricity, plumbing, and HVAC was done accurately and passed (notoriously fickle) building codes easily.
Mike puts his name on the sign because he rightly stakes his professional reputation on his work. You won't find a better contractor, so you might as well stop looking now.

Literally Treats The Project As If It Were His Own Home
Trustworthy. You hear about the stories of contractors taking money and leaving or not showing up to work, Mike is completely the opposite. We trusted Mike and his team of trades to complete a kitchen gut rehab that included all new water pipes throughout the house. The gut rehab portion included all new electrical and structural changes on a house built in 1947.
The contracting process was simple as Mike provided a complete estimate for the entire project (including allowances). We received six quotes ranging from firms with large marketing budgets to handy men who completed jobs "after hours". Mike's was the most comprehensive, detailed, and best priced for expected quality of workmanship.
- Available/Communication: uses technology to communicate - web-based project planning program so you are always up to date, emails/texts and always available for a call (even late night); Mike was flexible with our schedule meeting during the evening on weekdays and on Saturdays
- Literally treats the project as it was a rehab to his own home - near the end of the job we had a punch list of about 10 items in which we were extremely picky ( there was 1/8 inch gap between two cabinet doors) - when Mike did his own punch list he had about 20 items which were so detailed we would have never noticed (he even ordered a new cabinet door because he didn't like the way one was fitting); during construction would suggest add-ons not to make more money (he gave them at cost) but to make the project better (Mike recommended we upgrade lights to LEDs which were not in original scope; we were charged the cost (we checked the price at home depot) of the material no additional mark-up and we are glad we did the upgrade!)
- Value engineers - finds cost effective materials and alternatives, provides a great list of resources to help find the finishes
- Contractor first with an eye for design - he drew up multiple plans/layouts and provided guidance on what would look good at the same time we didn't have to pay for "designer costs" to help us pick out the paint color, style of our cabinets, etc. - Mike is a contractor so when he estimates the project he understands code requirements and can predict/include costs that others (such as designers) may not see
- Doesn't have a "showroom" which we preferred as he doesn't have extra overhead and we could use any manufacturer/company we wanted to get materials (Mike would order the materials for us often times getting us a discount, once we picked them out)
- Schedule: did the project on schedule and two weeks into the project we added significant scope by doing a complete plumbing rehab which was not included in the original estimate (8-12 weeks was original estimate did entire project in 11 weeks); we did have workers there late at night (not frequently) on weekdays sometimes until 9 PM which was annoying at the time but looking back was worth it to get the project done on time; there were also times when we had short notice of a trade showing up on a weekend to get some work done (Mike is accommodating so if late night/weekend work does not fit your schedule tell him upfront)
- Living in a construction zone sucks, Mike understands that and makes his guys clean up every night before they leave - he does everything he can to make the house livable (set your expectations when living in construction)
- Subcontractors/trades - Mike has built a quality team of licensed professionals; he did have one problem getting quality dry-wallers because they were in high demand, but he figured it out (again annoying at the time but looking back not a big deal)
- Cost - Mike provided reliable quotes and details for any cost overruns; we had to re-order one cabinet above the range because we did not like how low it was, we did end up paying for the new cabinet at the manufactures price
- Provided a 5 year warranty on all work which we have no doubt he will honor if we need it
We did not know Mike before calling him based on previous Yelp reviews. We are glad we called and would use Mike on any significant projects in the future! A family guy, running a small business completing large projects, doing great quality work for a reasonable price!

As Always, A Pleasure To Work With...Can't Be Happier
We can't be happier with the end result. With an old building and any renovation, you can always expect a surprise or two. Mike works very hard to provide options and solutions and stay on top of his trades. This was not the first time I worked with Mike but certainly the largest project we've done together. He, as always, was a pleasure to work with.
With a need to redo our wood floors, we decided to do a complete renovation of the first floor of our single family home. We opened up an enclosed small dining area and did a full update of the kitchen, including a new lighting plan for the entire level.

Hardworking, Personable...Handled contingencies well & expanded scope fairly
We had Mike and his team redo our kitchen and bathrooms based on a recommendation from a friend (and his good reviews on Angie's List). Our house is an old one, and so the project took a little longer and was more expensive than expected because of some unexpected contingencies. Mike managed the contingencies well and handled the expanded scope of work fairly. His subs were all very hard working and personable as well, which was key since my wife and kids were at home for much of the renovations. Ambrose Builders is at the top of our shortlist the next time that we need to do some renovations.

Mike Ambrose is a man of integrity who really cares that his customers are happy
We contracted Ambrose Builders to add a second story with three beds, two baths and laundry to our home. We also had him remove walls, raise ceilings, install new floors, and renovate existing bathroom on the first floor. For the exterior we replaced the front windows, door, brick facade, and steps.
Our overall experience with Ambrose builders was very positive. From the beginning Mike Ambrose was incredibly helpful in working through details to make sure we knew as much upfront as possible. He worked tirelessly to give us ideas and options for staying in budget. He was always open to working with our design ideas and Mike W. our carpenter was incredible about making those visions come to life. The project itself was difficult since we lived in the home during most of the job. We did have some unexpected and major challenges along the way but Mike was always able to be reached by phone or text and base camp (no matter what time of day or night). He was responsive and always fair. We felt that the subs were polite and friendly and of quality. It is also important to note he really does stand behind the work after the project is complete and will address any problems that arise unlike builders who almost seem to disappear after final payment. In our opinion Mike Ambrose is a man of integrity who really cares that his customers are happy. We recommend him and will continue to use him with future projects.

Exactly what we wanted at the price we expected to pay, couldn't be happier
Upstairs Hall Bathroom - complete demo of old bathroom; installation of ceramic floor, ceramic tile on walls, tub, tub & shower fixtures, vanity, sink, marble top, and sink fixtures, light fixture, medicine cabinet, painting, towel hangers, and creation of a shower nook.
Master Bathroom - cut out old vanity and whirlpool tub; redo the plumbing to accommodate new dual-sink vanity, redo the electric to accommodate outlet in the center cabinet of the new vanity and new locations for lighting, installed the vanity and new tub front panel that matched the vanity, installed new whirlpool tub, installed new marble on the tub top, installed new sink and tub fixtures, installed new backsplash tile on walls, repainted, installed hardware on the vanity, installed towel hanger
We liked Mike from the start because he wanted to help us make good decisions, was very organized, and very personable. We had gotten another estimate from another contractor where they were a little less expensive in their estimate but they questioned our judgement on what we wanted to do to the point where we thought we'd have to fight them to get what we wanted. As far as we were concerned, the contractor had to be the right one more than the estimate because we knew what we wanted and were willing to spend extra to get it. Mike was willing to accommodate that.
Mike uses a site called BaseCamp to organize everything that needs to be done. Even before we hired him for the job he had set up the site, listed the tasks that we would need to get done as far as purchasing items, and posted websites and ideas that we could use to help. We found him very responsive to BaseCamp posts, text messages, and voicemails, so really had no issues with getting in contact with him. He didn't have a preference whether he purchased the items and was reimbursed later or we purchased them, so we chose to purchase the items to get credit card points. While we picked everything out, Mike was very helpful coming up with solutions when what we wanted seemed to hit a snag.
The items we purchased all had different waits before delivery, some as long as 6 weeks, which can make things difficult on a project for both the homeowner and the contractor. We ordered a custom vanity through the Kohler Store that was very expensive but exactly what we wanted, and that took the longest between trying to get the d*** Kohler Store lady (who really couldn't care less about customer service) understand exactly what we wanted and the delivery wait time. Other items had other waits, but we wanted to get things started with what we had, so we got Mike to start the work before everything was in.
As far as the work getting done, Mike was able to get people to our house to do the work pretty quickly. Sometimes the times at which they would show up was a little erratic as the electricians and plumbers worked around other jobs. Because the items came in at different times, we had to have them come multiple times to do multiple things rather than being able to just get everything done at once. Toward the end of the project we just left a key with the project lead or leave the back door open for others rather than wait around to see if people would show up when we were expecting them. This never caused any issues and we never worried about them being in the house without us there.
At the end of the project, there were a few issues we had with the quality of some of the work that was done. We had Mike come over and take a look and within one workday he had everyone there to fix all of the issues. We now have bathrooms that we consider to be exactly what we wanted at a price that we expected to pay, so we couldn't be happier with the results.

The work was meticulous and the result beautiful
Ambrose builders constructed a Japanese style pergola over an existing second floor deck. They also painted and refurbished existing balcony doors.
The work was meticulous and the result beautiful. The carpentry included a hand routed Japanese symbol for "Joy" which hangs from cords but appears to be floating in air. When I stand on my deck, I almost feel that I am standing in Tokyo.

Very personable, easy to talk to and definitely knows his business
Mike was wonderful to work with. He came out and gave us an estimate as to how much the work we wanted done would cost. He gave us multiple options but also listened to our concerns and tailored his estimate to meet our needs and budget. He was very punctual and returned phone calls and emails promptly. I highly recommend Mike and Ambrose Buliders for any home needs; he is a great guy, very personable, easy to talk to and definitly knows this business!

The work was the most professional I've seen in my life
Ambrose Builders provided a complete overhaul to my condo.
Additionally, Ambrose Builders was pretty tech-savvy - they were able to provide concept drawings on the spot for me to sign off to keep the project moving along.

Ambrose builders came to the rescue...resulted in a sale
Prior to selling a 2-bedroom loft/condo, Ambrose Builders built out the framing for the second bedroom, including 2 walls, door, etc. to plan. Then finished with full trim, paint, hinge/knob work, etc.
I was in a bind and needed to sell my condo/loft FAST. The real estate agent I was using highly recommended finishing my second bedroom (was previously open to the loft) to ensure a fast sale and good price.
I had only a few days to get the work done and Ambrose Builders came to the rescue. They got out on site right away to look at the job and requirements and had it complete by the weekend (total elapsed time about 4 days).
After inspection I had some touchups I wanted done and true to their warranty, they immediately came back and addressed to my satisfaction.
A few days later, I had a showing that ultimately resulted in a sale the following month. I could not have turned it so quickly without Ambrose Builders' help.

The work Mike and his crew did is outstanding!
My wife and I purchased a new home that was perfect for us, except for the kitchen. So we decided to have it moved from its present location into a different location in the house. Mike was one of three contractors we contacted for quotes on the work we wanted done. He was professional and courteous and his quote was extremely reasonable.
The work Mike and his crew did is outstanding! We loved the way our new kitchen looks and functions. There were very few "surprises" during the work and the few that occurred, Mike was able to handle. The work took longer than we anticipated and than Mike quoted to us, but the final outcome now makes the delay irrelevant. I would highly recommend Ambrose Builders for any remodeling job you may be contemplating and we will be using Mike again in the near future.

Very pleased with the work of both phases. very respectful...clean and prompt
I utilized Ambrose Builders with a two phase renovation of my townhouse. The first phase included a gut rehab of a first floor kitchen and living area. This rehab include ripping out dropped ceiling in kitchen where a wood beamed ceiling was present that needed staining to match the remainder of the first floor. The renovation beside the normal demolition and installation of new cabinets, counter tops, sink, tile back splash, etc, included installation of new overall track lighting, installation of hardwood floors from living area to kitchen area, removal of walls, updating plumbing and electrical work and gas stove pipe lines. And, the renovation of a 3rd floor bathroom, which included vanity area replacement from a single sink to double sink, tile floor and bath area, and lighting fixtures. This phase included painting the bathroom and first floor.
The second phase included remodeling occurred about two years later. I renovated the second floor bathroom to include removal of tub and installation of shower area, carpentry work to alleviate plumbing issues surrounding shower installation, reinforcing wall that were structurally inadequate to hold shower doors, tile work, plumbing and vanity, toilet, lighting installation. This renovation included the installation of a new custom made iron banister that is used for the three floors. This involved demolition of existing drywall banisters, installing structural elements on floor with new hardwood floor to support the banisters. Remediation was also made when mold was found on the walls of the stairwells and needed to be repaired. Cheap hollow interior doors of the townhouse that were falling apart were also replaced with more solid ones and new hardware.
We lived in our townhouse during both renovation project and were pleased with the overall outcome. All laborers were very respectful of our home and the fact that we didn't move out. They were clean and prompt.
Mike Ambrose was very transparent regarding the costs of the project. He used licensed laborers and let me know immediately when issues arose that needed attention. The project did not go over budget with the exception of the additional items I requested or when unforeseen problems arose that were safety issues that needed to be addressed.
I was very pleased with the work of both phases of the renovation. I would hire Ambrose Builders again should additional work need to be completed on the property.

Made me feel confident he had my best interest in mind. Very Attentive.
I hired Ambrose builders to put a cumaru (brazilean teak) deck above my kitchen just off the master bath. Mike2, who I called Deuce, did a masterful job with the carpentry. He is a very skilled woodworker. After they completed the project on time and on budget, the new upstairs deck made my lower deck look really bad. Thus, I re-hired Ambrose builders to replace my larger lower deck too. Mike Ambrose made me feel confident he had my best interest in mind. They ended up shoring up the framing of the lower deck to carry the extra weight of the cumaru. The craftsmanship of the joinery is like furniture. Mike Ambrose was very attentive in keeping me informed throughout both projects. I would glady do another project with Ambrose builders. Highly recommended. Fantastic Results!

Asked that he stay on budget and on time and he did. Highly recommend!
I secured three estimates for the kitchen upgrade and Ambrose Builders was not the cheapest but also not the most expensive contractor. definitely worth the money. Mike was easy to work with he is genuinely interested in his client's wishes and is readily available no matter the time or the day. I only asked that he stay on budget and on time and he did. Highly recommend Ambrose Builders!

Patient, honorable and has great ideas!
Mike and his crew did a great job rebuilding our house. He is patient, honorable and has great ideas! He is very communicative, knowledgable and uses a website sharing platform which helps tremendously with getting the vision across. After having a home fire, we were on an emotional journey, and Mike was more than qualified to create a home that still felt like our home even with Chicago code requirements.

Everyone working for them have been fabulous: extremely patient, hard working
Ambrose builders have been super helpful in updating our 70+ year old home. From updating our electrical, installing ceiling fans, to removing a kitchen cabinet and installing a dishwasher, installing a gas line to allow us to have a gas stove, installing shelves, to providing my husband with his very own "Black Hawk man cave" (aka remodeling our basement.) This included adding can lighting, carpentry work to cover holes in the ceiling and adding new built in shelves, carpet, and the ultimate paint job. What a difference, no more 1970's dark brown room! No job is too small or too big. Everyone working for them have been fabulous: extremely patient, hard working often working late hours to finish a job. They really listen to your needs and try to stay within your budget. The work did go a little over the original estimates, but this was also due to us adding more things along the way or other unforeseen complications with an older home. We have recommended Ambrose builders to our family and friends. We also look forward to them doing future bathroom and kitchen remodeling.

Basically an A+
Amazing bathroom gut rehab (pictured above)! We hired Mike Ambrose and his crew to do a down to the studs remodel on our bathroom as well as some other updates throughout our condo prior to selling it. We lived in a 1920's six-flat, so obviously there were some surprises once they'd opened up the walls. Mike gave us daily updates about the progress and was upfront with any increased costs (due to nearly 100 year old plumbing behind the walls). Even with the extra curve balls thrown at them, the project was finished only 2 days after the promised date and within 15% of the cost estimate - which in construction is basically an A+. Mike is great at finding creative solutions to problems, and also went out of his way to fix a couple of additional items (in the kitchen) on his own personal time, so our condo would show at it's absolute best. Long story short, we went from listing our condo to contract in 45 days, and the buyers commented that it was the beautiful brand new bath that nudged them towards our unit. We'd definitely use Mike and his team again.

"Mountains into mole hills" attitude and service proved to be invaluable
Great experience! couldn't have asked for a better experience with a contractor! Mike Ambrose is personable, professional and precise. He provided me with advice and options while working within my original vision for the project. He even discouraged me from spending additional money on extras that didn't add value to my home! My communication with Mike was ongoing- even when I was out of town, I always knew what was happening with my bathroom renovation.
Half way through the project, the unit above me had a leak and destroyed part of the new drywall. With water pouring through my ceiling, Mike simply assured me that he would take care of everything. His “mountains into mole hills” attitude and service proved to be invaluable. I give the highest recommendation to Ambrose Builders!

Great experience - completed on time and on budget
The renovation of my kitchen and bathroom was easy and worry free. Mike Ambrose communicated with me throughout the process and I knew there weren't going to be "surprises" for me when I got home from work. The project went according to plan, was completed on time and within my budget. I hope to be using Mike again for the next phase of my renovation projects.

Personal attention to detail
Recently, I purchased my 55 year old family home. Through Mike's personal attention to detail and his crew's master skills in custom work, within four months we gutted the home to its studs and rebuilt a modern custom home with all new systems. I could not be more pleased to see my dream come true...gourmet kitchen, spa bathroom, master suite, and open communal spaces that are warm and inviting to family and friends. Mike and his crew do exceptional custom work. If you can imagine it, they can build it. From the demolition through the final touches on paint, Mike and his crew worked diligently with me to rehab this extraordinary family home that will see many more years of family, friends and fun. Thanks Mike!

A fantastic job and were excellent throughout the whole process. Accommodated last minute changes...
We had our kitchen and main floor remodeled with Ambrose. They did a fantastic job and were excellent throughout the whole process. Mike was a pleasure to work with and helped a great deal in planning and design. They accommodated our last minute changes and everything was finished on time and under budget. Would highly recommend.

More functional...lots of comments...did his best to make as painless as poss
(5 out of 5 stars) Mike and his team helped us with renovating our kitchen - he removed a wall and moved the built-in cabinet that was on that wall (on the dining room side), replaced all the cabinets and countertops (including changing the layout somewhat, but not the placement of the sink or any of the appliances), did a fair bit of electrical work to bring us up to code and added in overhead lighting, refinished the floors and added a tile backsplash. During the process, Mike’s guys also helped us make other changes throughout the house, including replacing most of the light fixtures.Overall we love the new kitchen Mike and his team built for us! It is much nicer and more functional than the old one - it gets a ton more light and the open aspect of it is really convenient and nice for how we live our lives, especially when hosting or needing to run back to the kitchen during meals. It definitely feels more like an integrated part of the house, and less like a quarantined off space. The job is holding up well (about 1 year later) and we get lots of comments on the new space. One aspect we’re particularly happy with is the built in hutch - Mike’s team moved it to a different wall of the dining room, because we removed the wall where it had previously been located. They did a great job of making the cabinet look like it had always been on that wall. They were also able to patch in the floor where the cabinet had been in a way that looks natural - I never notice it anymore.Overall, we enjoyed working with Mike - he was very patient with us and our many add-ons to the project. We used a website/app called Basecamp to manage the project and post our ideas/questions/product choices. Mike was fairly quick about responding to our comments and questions, good about suggesting sources to look for products (like cabinet hardware) and patient with us when we couldn’t decide. He worked with us to build some open shelving on one wall and made suggestions when he thought something we were planning to do wouldn’t look or work right. With respect to the process - A kitchen renovation is never fun to live through, and I think having a young baby didn’t help, but I’m not sure there’s much Mike (or anyone) could have done about that. I do think he did his best to make the process as painless as possible - to keep the dust contained and work around our schedule as much as possible and to be as quick as possible. However, the process was made a bit more painful by the fact that the wall we were removing unexpectedly turned out to be a load bearing wall and the project essentially went on hold for about 3 weeks while Mike got new permits and approvals. We wish that this had been investigated further before the project began but once we got over that hurdle, things moved fairly efficiently,While the price was not insignificant, it was in line with other quotes we received and felt reasonable, after taking into account all the miscellaneous projects we added on and the additional electrical work that was required in our old house (which turned out to have cloth wiring in places and the like). Our only comment is that we did not really feel that we had a good understanding of where the price would be (in relation to the original quote) until the end of the project, so if it’s important not to exceed a stated budget, it may be worth checking in with Mike periodically to see where costs are coming out.

Definitely Built To Last...Lots Of Custom Work...Call Mike Now!
Call Mike now! Mike (and Mike) did a room re-do and deck for us last year. They took out 2 windows, replaced them with a slider, insulated everywhere, and built a big deck off the back. Lots of custom work was done with the trim indoors and it looks great. The deck was a great addition and is definitely built to last. A few small things in the project came up, some are just un-avoidable, but they were addressed fast and we have no complaints. They even came back recently (a year later) because one of the deck posts began to warp (out of their control). It was replaced at no charge! Part of the deck job was to do the beginning stages of a pergola, of which I would finish this year. After he replaced the warped post, I asked if he wouldn't mind helping me lift up the first pergola rafter board to keep the post square, since I was by myself and may not get to it right away. Not only did he help me with the first board, he had another guy with him and they proceeded to put all the rafters up in about 20 minutes while I just stood there! That's what you can expect from these guys. You will not regret working with Mike and his team.

It's hard to find a contractor that deals with people the way Mike does
Mike Ambrose is a great guy to deal with. His company is top notch and I could not be more satisfied. My family has used Ambrose Builders several times and each time we have been completely satisfied. The last project we did was a complete gut rehab of the bathroom By complete, I mean down to the studs and floor joists. Mike and his crew did a fantastic job. We are very happy with our new bathroom! The quality of workmanship is great and the workers were pleasant and very nice to deal with. It is hard to find a contractor that deals with people the way Mike does. My highest recommendation is given to him.

Couldn't be happier with Ambrose...
My condo association has used Ambrose Builders on a number of jobs for our building - including roof repair. They have always been professional and easy to work with - calling when they say they will call, showing up when they say they will. Their prices are very competitive and they have always finished projects on-budget. Mike Ambrose, the owner, has followed up with us post project to see if there are any issues. Overall, we have been extremely happy with the level of service Ambrose Builders provides and have no problem recommending them to others. We will certainly give them a call for any future projects!

Took a flooded basement and built an Oasis...
These guys took my flooded basement that was unlivable for 2 years and turned it into an oasis for my kids and my wife and I. Complete with custom built-in shelves, learning center for the kids with blackboard walls, a fully custom wood-brick wall that had my appraiser asking for their number. They did a great job. Not only that, they took a dingy utility room and turned into crisp, clean area to do laundry and installed a wash sink under the stairs. Great use of space, and great value add to my house.

Huge Help Throughout The Process...Very Happy With The Final Outcome
Ambrose Builders completely renovated our outdated master bathroom. They replaced all the tile, vanity, sinks, tub, and toilet. They also rebuilt portions of the walls to change the size and shape of the tub and laundry nooks and added shelves and did some electrical work. Finally, they added beadboard and painted. We used a buffet table as a vanity, so they converted the buffet - cutting holes for plumbing, etc - and waterproofed it, etc. Mike Ambrose was a huge help throughout the process. We even called him from various stores to talk about what we should buy. He was always available and patient with our questions. The work was done within the time frame he predicted. The work did go somewhat over budget, largely as a result of design choices we made. Overall, we are very happy with the final outcome - our bathroom looks and works great! We will definitely consider using Ambrose for future projects.

Identified the problem after 2 others were unable to do so
I had some MAJOR water damage in the drywall on my ceiling in 2 rooms, down the walls, and all along the duct work coming from my HVAC unit. Mike Ambrose came in, assessed the situation, and identified the problem after 2 others were unable to do so. His estimate was accurate, and the worked was finished quickly. I went away for the weekend, and when I came back, I couldn't even tell that my condo had been damaged at all. And as an added bonus, he finished painting my bathroom for me after he happened to come across the matching paint can - even though he wasn't working on my bathroom at all - free of charge! Mike is great, has a great team, and is very trustworthy. He has a great sense of humor and is easy-going - not pushy like some contractors can be. Give him a call, you won't be disappointed!

I Spent much of the time on vacation...looked grand when I returned
I hired Mike based on good reviews from Yelp and a positive first impression when we met. The project was to redo a kitchen and bathroom that had basically been thrown together with minimal effort when the building was renovated 15 years earlier. He led me through all the necessary steps in a way that a novice like myself could understand easily. His Basecamp site was set up nicely and it became a good way to pass information back and forth. There was a lot of preparation, but once the work started, I think it went smoothly. I spent much of the time on vacation, but his crew kept my place in great shape while I was there and it looked grand when I returned from the holiday. A project of that size is going to have a few headaches along the way, but nothing that couldn't be improved upon with good communication.

Approachable And Knowledgeable...Went Above And Beyond
I've used Ambrose Builders on 2 separate occasions for building repair work. They've provided competitive bids, delivered on-time and on-budget, and even went above and beyond the work at hand to provide an assessment of other areas for improvements. Mike is very approachable and knowledgeable about construction and design.

Plan to have them do any future projects that arise
I hired Ambrose Builders to install crown molding and trim in my living room and dining room. I also had them swap a number of different pieces of wood trim throughout my house including my hand rail for my stairs. From the initial meeting for an estimate through the completion of the project, Mike Ambrose and his crew were understanding of my needs and completely professional. They did an amazing job and I plan to have them do any future projects that arise.

Originally rated my overall experience a "B", but have changed it to an "A"
I had my condo painted and had french doors installed which included cutting into the drywall.Member Comments: The work itself was good. However, there was difficulty with communication. In the beginning it was only via email and I could not get Mike to call me back. I wanted an estimate which they only gave me over the phone and did not see it in person. I was told that all of the work would take 1-2 days, but it took 3 with them having to come back on 2 different days to fix my floor and repaint a spot that had bubbled. The work itself was done well, but they could be more professional and organized.
Addendum: After I submitted this review, Mike called to thank me for taking the time to write in and wanted to know what could have been done better. He was warm and genuinely interested in improving his business. As reported above, I was pleased with the work. My place looks great, and I will consider him for future jobs. *I originally rated my overall experience a "B", but have changed it to an "A" after speaking with Mike. Businesses that look at improving their customer service are hard to come by and Mike does do what he can to make sure the job is done correctly.

Some of the nicest people you could meet
Mike and his father are some of the nicest people you could meet. They worked diligently every day and got the job done quick. We had half of our bathroom remodeled removing the old vanity/sink, tiled the floor, and added an electrical outlet. Everything came out great and we have no complaints on any of the work.

There hasn't been an issue that Mike couldn't solve
Ambrose Builders should be the first and only phone call you make. They painted the common areas in our six flat among other things. That was four years ago. Mike and his crew are professional, efficient, cost effective, and most of all top notch in customer service. Mike makes sure everything is is on schedule and to your liking. Did I mention how professional and courteous they are? Customer service is a priority!
Ambrose Builders was recently used again for our common areas as well as two individual units. (Mine being one of them. They also did a vent job for the building.) They are clean and never leave anything laying around or dusty when the day is done.
There hasn't been an issue that Mike couldn't solve. I've referred him numerous times and everyone is thrilled with his work. The best part is they can do it all.
I highly, highly recommend Ambrose Builders. Once you use them, you'll never have to use anyone else for painting, handywork, etc.
Thanks Mike!!!!!!

Most importantly, the work was first rate
My husband and I used Mike and his crew to do some work on our roof and repair/redo some brickwork and tuckpointing - all related to water we were continuing to get in our building.
His estimate was extremely fair and both Mike and the guys who did the job were great. Mike walked us through the various components of the project and kept us up to date on the progress of the work. His team of workers were very polite, efficient, on time and cleaned up the work site nicely each day.
Most importantly, the work was first rate and we have not had any water issues since they completed the job. I would highly recommend Mike Ambrose Builders for any project you have around the house.

I have recommended them to family and friends and have only received positive
I would highly recommend Ambrose Builders to anyone looking for high quality home repair, renovation or construction work. Through the years I have hired Ambrose for various construction, renovation, soundproofing, plumbing, electrical and HVAC projects (among many others). Mike and his team have been reliable and trustworthy in their work. They truly care about their craft and want to make sure the customer understands the project and potential changes or risks. Mike clears up any areas of concern. I have recommended them to family and friends and have only received positive feedback on the experience others have had with Mike and his team. I am not the handiest when it comes to work around the house, so having someone like them around to help puts my mind at ease. He is the best contractor I have ever worked with and plan to use him on any projects going forward.
